Canada Life: Who benefits most from platforms?

With the vast bulk of client money now going on to platforms, who really benefits? The client, the adviser or just the platform provider? The area of platform due diligence is one the FCA will be looking at closely over the coming months.

In association with Canada Life, Professional Adviser have hosted a roundtable debate on the subject. Here, Incisive Media editorial director Lawrence Gosling discusses the issues with Canada Life e-Business manager David Greenall; Foster Denovo investment research manager Declan McAndrew; and Aim Two Three founder David Ingram.

An article published by Money Marketing last month stated that the FCA will look at platform due diligence as part of a thematic review on retail investment advice due diligence later this year.

The roundtable debate also covers; the cost pressures on advisers, how to know what is best for your client and the importance of value over cost.

The CanInvest Select Account, mentioned in the debate, is an off-platform onshore bond offering investors a straightforward charging structure, unlimited free fund switches and flexible tax-efficient income. It also provides a comprehensive range of payment options, allowing your clients to decide how they pay for your advice, and no maximum age for lives assured.
